Square Table Series by Jill Mott feat. Cider!

We're back with another Square Table Series presented by Jill Mott and Henry & Son! Jill just got back from Vermont where she was assisting in making cider and what better time to talk about apples than November when they're fresh and amidst their trajectory towards hard, fermented, apple wine! We'll be tasting ciders from around the world, discussing regional styles and traditions in addition to the pertinent discussion of wine v. cider and wine v. beer. Fall. Has. Begun. Eat apples. Drink cider. Tuesday, 11/13 @ 6pm.

Square Table Series 2.0: Alternative Holiday Wines

Move over Champagne, Pinot Noir, and Riesling!
I was elated when guests wanted to step out of their comfort zones to explore the distinctly special this holiday. Step aside Champagne. Move on over Pinot Noir. Riesling, we love you, but hang on to your hats, there are some secret finds this sommelier couldn't live without in the depths of a celebratory season!

In the second iteration of our successful Square Table Series, we'll delve into a few more sides of wine, some deeper, some lighter. Henry & Son's Jill Mott will talk through the nuances and myth that are vineyard soils, the brilliance of autumnal (and hibernal, a.k.a. winter) rosés and alternative holiday wines, all by themes requested by popular demand.

Square Table Series 2.0: Autumnal/Winter Rosés

The highlight of our spring rosé class (besides the wines!) was when a participant uttered, "Well now I want rosés in the winter too!" YES! YES! On October 17th, we'll talk in-depth about why rosés pair well with heavier fare, how to select them, what makes them so unique when comparing them to summer rosés and much more!

On Wednesday, October 11 (from 6-8pm), Bill Summerville will guide us through a tasting of eight Burgundies from the cellar of New France Wine Co. to answer the question: what are the effects of producer, site and vintage on Burgundy? This is a rare opportunity to taste wines from illustrious producers such as Jayer-Gilles and Leroy and fabled 1er Cru and Grand Cru sites for just $40 a ticket! Thursday Tasting: Fast Mary's Bloody Mary Enhancers

Fast Mary’s Bloody Mary Enhancer is a dill-inspired, craft blend of seasonings to spruce up Bloody Mary. Fast Mary's contains no MSG, is gluten-free, and is naturally-vegan. This versatile beverage enhancer can be used in a variety of tasty cocktail classics from Bloody Marys to Martinis.

The idea behind Fast Mary’s Bloody Mary Enhancer came from the owner, a chemist, who developed the product while working as a bartender in Wisconsin. With ten people deep on a Saturday morning at the bar, she needed a mix of seasonings that could simply be added to a tomato base (tomato juice, V8 or Clamato) to make the perfect Bloody Mary, in little time. Many batches and tweaks were made over several years, to come up with the perfect blend.

Square Table Series 2.0: Soils

Is that schist in my glass?
Many people speak of the "minerality" they taste in a wine or of certain wines smelling of the schist or slate or limestone soils the vines are grown in. Are vines a conduit for minerals, extracting them from the soil and depositing them in grapes? This is a very contested topic indeed but in the interest of science (and lore), we'll head into controversial territory to taste, discern and discuss.
